Professional Profile
My name is Bridget and I am a fully qualified and BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, working with Think CBT in Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14. I also provide CBT online via Skype and video link.
I have over 10 years' experience in the treatment of a wide range of complex psychological, behavioural and emotional problems.
As an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Registered Mental Health Nurse, I have many years of experience. After leaving the NHS in 2018 I now work as Private Practitioner and work with Adults and young people from 16 upwards.
My primary interests are in the treatment of Anxiety, Depression and associated problems. I have a specialist interest and extensive experience in OCD including Intrusive thoughts or Pure O.
Although trained in the evidence based protocols of traditional CBT, I have increasingly found the benefits of working within an ACT model (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), which might be described as a kind of 'supercharged CBT'!
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy gets its name from its main themes - to accept things that are out of your control and commit to changing things that can be changed to make your life better. ACT uses mindfulness and acceptance skills to develop a more flexible relationship with your thoughts, feelings, memories and sensations. Time is also taken to clarify what gives your life meaning, your values without being held back by tricky thoughts and feelings. With a new sense of purpose and direction, you can begin to build a more enriched and meaningful life.
My approach is also informed by Compassion Focused Therapy, which like ACT draws on current brain science to help us understand our 'tricky minds' and is particularly helpful for those struggling with shame and self criticism.
Research shows that the success of any Therapy experience is very much dependent on the quality of the therapeutic relationship. I believe I bring a non-judgmental, warm and kind approach to sessions, ensuring you feel safe and supported as we work together.
