Professional Profile

My name is Josie, I am a fully qualified and BABCP-accredited CBT therapist working with Think CBT from Truro, TR2.

I have been practicing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy since 2013 and completed my Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training at the University of Exeter which is where I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology. I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Supervisor and spent much of my time in the NHS as a senior therapist offering supervision to other Cognitive Behavioural Therapists. I was fortunate enough to grow up on a farm in Cornwall and always wanted to be a Veterinarian… until I realised I didn’t like the sight of blood! This made me re-think my life plans and, through studying Psychology at A-Level, I realised I had a passion for people and found it fascinating to understand more about how the mind works; even more so when it doesn’t work so well! I went on to study Psychology at degree level, thinking that if it didn’t work out that it would be a good all-rounder degree that would stand me in good stead for any future career I may choose. But the degree only deepened my passion for Psychology even further and, coupled with the desire to help people, this led me into a career of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy within the NHS. I do still have a great love for animals, so I make sure I regularly spend time on the family farm as much as I can. I completed a 3 year Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Exeter where I achieved a 2:1. I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Evidence-Based Psychological Practice. And a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CBT can help you to understand your own vicious cycles to then be able to make some helpful changes to overcome your difficulties. I will be working with you and helping you along your journey of working towards your own personal goals and getting back to the person you want to be. I have worked with many clients using CBT and I have seen, first-hand, the life changing difference it can make to people and I want the same to happen for you. I am keen to follow the recommended treatment protocols but equally I understand that not everyone fits into the same boxes so I am willing to use my experience to tailor treatment to meet your specific needs. We will start together by discussing your problems, breaking things down to try and understand and make sense of everything initially. I often find it is helpful to focus on one smaller thing at a time rather than lots of larger things, so we may agree to prioritise what is most important. I am happy to be guided by you and work in a way that suits you best, such as taking things at your own pace and being mindful of when life throws a curveball or unexpected difficulties. I abide by the policies and ethical standards laid down by the BABCP and I have full professional indemnity to work as a therapist in the UK. If you want to book an appointment, please click on the blue book appointment button adjacent to my profile picture. I will call you to discuss therapy options before confirming your first therapy appointment.
