Professional Profile
My name is Miriam Burton and I am a fully qualified and BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and HCPC registered Psychologist working with Think CBT via video-link (eg Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams).
I also provide face to face appointments from Craven Clinic in Skipton, North Yorkshire.
I am a registered provider with AXA Heath, Vitality, Aviva, WPA (others per reuquest) and can invoice them directly if you have a pre-authorisation code.
My background is in Clinical Psychology and I have over 15 years experience, in the NHS and privately, working with people who are experiencing common mental health difficulties such as Depression, a variety of Anxiety-based problems (such as General Anxiety/Worry, Social Anxiety/Shyness, Health Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Specific Phobias, Panic Attacks, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and Self-Esteem Difficulties.
I specialise in Perinatal Psychology, addressing mental health difficulties before and after birth (eg postnatal depression, general anxiety, fear of birth, birth trauma, miscarriage). I am also passionate about helping parents at any stage of their journey to build confidence in their parenting and can consult on behaviour management.
I offer a 15 minute free initial online consultation to briefly discuss your difficulties and how I could help.
As a working parent my appointments are usually provided during school hours, term time only.
If you are happy to go ahead to book an assessment consultation with me we would then discuss your current difficulties and history in detail as well as develop your goals for therapy. I will introduce the recommended approach for your specific problem, and help you understand it from a psychological perspective and how you can start to make changes. After each session further worksheets or practice tools are provided to help you build on your learning between our sessions. We will review how therapy is working for you at Session 6 and discuss how many more sessions (usually up to 20) would be helpful for you to reach your therapy goals.
I am a kind, honest and experienced therapist and work collaboratively with each person. My main therapeutic modality is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and I have additional training in Mindfulness, Compassion Focussed Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as Parenting Training, which I incorporate in a structured way to help people reach their therapy goals.
I abide by the professional and ethical standards laid down by the HCPC and BABCP. I have full professional indemnity insurance and current DBS clearance.
Please feel free to contact me via the ThinkCBT website.
