Professional Profile
My name is Alan and I am a fully qualified and BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist working with Think CBT from my consulting rooms in Edgbaston, Birmingham (B15).
I have held the position as Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, teaching Masters’ Degree courses in psychological approaches to assessment and treatment of various problems. This including research and publications in professional journals. (1998-2002)
I am currently the lead Consultant Psychotherapist (CBT) in the West Midlands as well as West Midlands Fire Service and I led the psychological therapy team at West Midlands Police Force for 7 years. I was also a Consultant Psychotherapist to Woodbourne Priory Hospital, Birmingham (2001-2007).
My academic experience has involved publications and training in the UK and Europe and I have lectured at Conferences around the world including the World Congress in cognitive behavioural science in Japan 2005.
I hold accreditation with British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) and United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), both organisations have rigorous processes to ensure I maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
I am also an Affiliate Member of the Society of Occupational Medicine and Senior Associate to the Royal Society of Medicine and regularly teach at the University of Birmingham where I hold an Honorary Lecturing position.
Due to the length of time in practice I have a relaxed manner and I aim to put clients at ease as soon as possible. I also adhere to a strict code of confidentiality and should I need to write to a GP to advise, this would only be done with the clients’ permission and access to report before sending. This is always discussed if needed.
I specialise my services in treating depression and anxiety and this can include obsessive compulsive disorder, generalised anxiety (stress and worry), occupational anxiety (this can include liaising with employer if needed, business coaching), trauma responses and relationship difficulties.
If I feel these problems are “clinical” in nature I can write to my clients GP with my clients permission to suggest medical treatment if appropriate.
