My name is Tim, I am a fully qualified and BABCP-accredited CBT therapist working with Think CBT from Hove, BN3.
I have over 12 years experience as a CBT Therapist, having worked in the NHS for over 12 years and as a private therapist for over 4 years. I have also worked as a CBT supervisor for more than 8 years and currently work for the NHS as a supervisor and for the University of Sussex on the CBT teaching course. My aim is always to help people understand their problems first and to get a good sense of what is potentially keeping them stuck. This then provides a solid foundation to make any changes necessary to move forward. It is not always easy to make changes but usually change is necessary if we want to feel better and make progress. Therefore, really understanding why change has been difficult is a valuable tool for making progress in the future; this then allows us to make the most effective use of the CBT tools and techniques. I really enjoy working with self esteem and perfectionist type behaviours and this has been something I have focused on over the last few years. I also have over 12 years of experience of working with a range of different anxiety disorders and depression. In 2018 I completed my couples therapy training through the Tavistock Centre and worked as a couples therapist in the NHS alongside my CBT role. I have continued to see a small number of couples a week to maintain these skills. This training also helped me with my CBT approach as it allowed me to have a more in depth understanding of the impact of relationships on mental health. I abide by the policies and ethical standards laid down by the BABCP and I have full professional indemnity to work as a therapist in the UK.
