Prof Hale has over 30 years’ experience as a consultant psychiatrist and practises with his colleague Dr Adrian Winbow as part of Private Psychiatry, a private mental health practice working closely with Think CBT. I also provide online sessions via Skype and video link.
He offers psychiatric outpatient clinics in Kent and in London and diagnoses and treats all major mental health conditions in adults, specialising in affective disorders including depression and bipolar disorder, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), anxiety disorders and phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), alcohol and substance abuse and psychotic disorders.
Prof Hale is fully trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Psychotherapy and psychoeducation groups for depression and bipolar disorders.
He has a special interest in the development of new medications for mental health conditions and the management of complex psycho-pharmacology, and has been instrumental in the development of some modern treatments for depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. As well as practising as a private psychiatrist, Prof Hale holds the position of Emeritus Professor of Mental Health at the University of Kent and regularly teaches on the subject both in the UK and internationally.
His special interests enable Prof Hale to offer the latest in developments in the field of mental health to his patients and to ensure that they receive the best treatments available.
Prof Hale holds specialist registration in general adult and forensic psychiatry within the NHS and has twice held the post of Medical Director of NHS Trusts, as well as being a senior lecturer at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals. He was later appointed Professor and academic head of department at Sheffield University before moving on to his current professorship at the University of Kent.
As a practising doctor, he is regulated by and abides by the professional and ethical standards set by the British Medical Association (BMA) and the General Medical Council (GMC). Prof Hale is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, a member of the British Association of Psychopharmacology, the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology and a member of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine.
One-hour appointments with Prof Hale are £295-£375.
